BUTI Yoga

This class is taught by:

Carrie Foltz-Gray

Carrie Foltz-Gray (aka Carrie Bull)- Studio Manager, 200 hr RYT, BUTI Yoga Master.

Carrie is our Studio Manager and  started practicing yoga in her bedroom in 2006.  When she found BUTI Yoga in 2012, she had moved on to her living room.  After her first online video, she sat on her mat sweaty, red faced, and exhausted; bewildered by what she just attempted to do.  Being a connoisseur of the home video work out programs (shout out to Beachbody), BUTI felt different.   It tapped into part of her that no other practice had before.  She continued to hide away and BUTI shake in her living room until 2015 when she decided to seek her 200hr RYT certification in Nashville, TN under BUTI Yoga founder, Bizzie Gold.   It was the hardest thing she ever did, but when she emerged she was completely changed. In 2015, she completed her 200 hour RYT in Santa Monica, Ca.  After certification, Carrie finally got out of practicing BUTI in her living room, and moved on to teaching packed classes in Knoxville, TN.

Carrie is the first to bring BUTI Yoga to Knoxville.  At first, many were hesitant to try out this non-traditional form of yoga they had never heard of,  but once students began trying it out, they were hooked, and began to spread the word about Carrie and BUTI Yoga.  This was the seed needed that needed to be planted, and soon it would grow into the KNOX BUTI TRIBE: a supportive, loving group of women passionately devoted to spilling everything that they are.  At the end of 2015, Carrie became certified in Advanced BUTI and completed the BUTI Yoga Master Trainer Program in 2016.

Carrie balances her BUTI Yoga practice with Bhakti Vinyasa, Renegade Power Yoga, Ashtanga, Bikram and more traditional practices.

A reformed couch potato, when she isn't at the studio, she is spending time with her loving husband and daughter, exploring cities, traveling, eating, more eating and on a patio of your local brewery.

"BUTI Yoga is   learning the art of letting go, being in your body and allowing movement to heal you- it is magic.  Westerners have gotten away from dance rituals, ceremonies and celebrations.  BUTI Yoga taps into those roots of primal movement, stimulating energetic cleansing from within.  You might not know exactly how it's happening, but the evidence won't be clearer as your life stars to change in all facets.  In BUTI we sweat with intention. We move in an expression of pure joy. Join me on the mat."

Jamie Raper

Client Relations Manager, Buti Yoga Instructor

Jamie has a Health and Wellness degree and was fitness coordinator while serving in the US Navy. Her background is Boxing and CrossFit. She found yoga 2 years ago after she hit her “rock bottom” and realized it was time to love her body/mind not punish/break it. Her passion for Buti came from just that. Getting out of her head and into her body. Letting the movement guide her into a new joy for life. She truly feels like Buti called her home to awaken her own power. Her passion for the community is something you can’t miss and she brings a fire for life with her into any class she teaches. She lives by the saying #alwaysdown and thrives on getting comfortable in the uncomfortable. Her goal is to share the gift of yoga with everyone so they can see their own potential while always remaining a student herself and continuing to learn from her amazing Renegade family and beyond!

If you can’t find her doing yoga you’ll probably catch her in the Mountains as she plans to hike the Appalachian Trail next year.

All Buti classes utilize spiral structure technique to facilitate the release + toning of the body - physical, emotional and energetic. Through primal movement, dynamic asana and cardio-sprints, students breakdown the emotional barriers that hold them back from achieving self-love and true human connection. Music guides our classes like an internal GPS to avoid having to listen to 8 counts or reps. The beat blended movement forces you out of your head and INTO YOUR BODY. It is in THIS magical place that you integrate your human experience instead of escape it. All formats incorporate elements of shaking + vibration to help release stored trauma and stimulate cellular reorganization.

The word "Buti" is derived from an ancient Indian maranthi word meaning "the cure for something hidden or kept secret". Buti yoga teaches that the power to heal oneself can come from within. Buti Yoga is a fusion of primal movement, tribal dance and plyometrics (jump training) blended into a dynamic yoga practice. Buti utilizes the Spiral Structure Technique which sculpts + tones deep abdominal muscles which strengthen and tone the body. This practice is challenging, unique, non-traditional, and most of all FUN. Buti is a transformational practice from the inside out. All levels welcome. Bring a non-slip mat (cause you are gonna SWEAT) + water. SWEAT X CONNECT X THRIVE *music may contain explicit lyrics.
